GC138: Masking Tape (washi tape) Thank Yous

This month on Gingersnap Creations we're celebrating WORDS OF WISDOM.

Are "Please" and "Thank You" words of wisdom? Maybe. Maybe not. But good manners never go out of style. Most people buy a pack of 10 thank you cards and get them right out after receiving a gift. Me (and I'll bet you) have to make a thank you card. And they never seem to get out the door. So this year, I decided to go with clean and simple (CAS) thanks you!

This week's Gingersnap challenge is Masking Tape. I morphed that one a bit into washi tape. My friend, Heather, LOVES the stuff. And I have to admit I really like it too - but it's too "CLEAN" for me generally. So it's sits around looking pretty and I pet it now and then.

To make this a quick project as well as CAS...I started by buying a pack of envelopes and note cards from Archivers'.

I scored all the note cards in half and folded them.

Then I randomly stamped "thank you: on the fronts. Turning some upright and others sideways. There is no science to this one. Just STAMP!

Then I cut strips of washi tape and stuck it to the cards.





One of the great things about washi tape is that it's mostly transparent, so you get great shadows and effects by layering.

My 50th Birthday Travel Album

I finally finished it!! Last September my mom and I took a "family heritage" trip to the Madison Wisconsin area. On and off over the last 15 years, I've spent a great deal of time doing family genealogy research. My mom's family is "easy" because they all came from Norway between 1840 and 1850 - and settled in two counties (Dane and Green) Wisconsin. Thru Ancestry.com I've meet cousins 5 and 6 generations removed. Some still live very near the original homestead of the ancestors I've researched the most.

My greatest 50th birthday wish was to have my picture take at the grave of our common "mother", Birgit Halverson. She died on my birthday (83 years earlier). Despite 6-8 months of research, contacting EVERYBODY I could think of, sending my newly met cousins out to area cemeteries - we still haven't found Birgit's grave. But in the end I cherish meeting those cousins and sharing a common background! In addition, I wanted to visit the Wisconsin State Historical Society to gather records I could find online, but cost $15 a copy to get.

So here is my travel/birthday album from that trip. I started with a Graphic 45 Kraft envelope album. Covered a great deal of it in Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutant paper and added some additional mini envelopes for additional storage. Other supplies used: Primas, Glimmer Mist, rhinestones, Slice, washi tape, Memory Box stamps, and some Tim Holtz stuff.

Closed it's a pretty small album.
Just under flap is a picture (a bad one) of the birthday girl - ME!

Each "page" is an envelope. Inside I put a journal card and a photo for that day.
The small envelopes also have journal cards and hold "ephemera". In this case my pass to the UW library.






On my birthday I used this numbered paper and "highlighted" my age!



I decorated some of the inside flaps.

Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas - tag #3

This is my take on Tim's Day #3 tag. I have the bird die but wanted to use the deer...but I did use the washi tape technique.
I love Distress Inks because when layered and dry they GLOW! Yummy! I did spray a little Pearl Glimmer Mist over the tag to give it some shine. And added that lush gold mesh ribbon.

FTL 87 - FINNY BIRTHDAY

Isn't she sassy?!? (grin)

I needed one more card to finish out my SCS birthday fairy commitments for this month and and wanted to do a "QUICK" card. And this was pretty quick.

The mermaid was a quick color with Copics. Don't you love how they will blend? Her fin is BG15 and YG13. And of course it was glittered! The stripes are washi tape (I love that stuff too). All in all it was a "10 minute" card.

I hope you're all enjoying your spring weather...it's SNOWING here again. Yesterday we had thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes. Today it's 8-9 inches of white stuff. They closed school today....GOTTA LOVE SPRING IN COLORADO!

Tag Tuesday #47 - Inspire Me!

It's been a wild week for me. Everything at work was due on Friday, so it was long hours of work for me. THEN on top of that...I was suppose to be in Ireland this weekend with my family. I didn't get to go due to Jazz's vet bills but I would have been trying to get home yesterday (Saturday) myself. So in the end it was a good thing I didn't go. However, I still haven't found out where my family is. Last I heard they were schedule out of Dublin (back to Venice) on Monday morning....if the planes are flying. But that was Thursday night. SO....keep your fingers crossed for them!

I did get some time to play finally yesterday. I took some time and went to the Saturday crop at Archiver's. Just getting out of the house with planned craft projects means some stuff gets done. One of the things I worked on was the weekly TAG challenge from Kard Krazy (Louise). The challenge was to use a sentiment stamp on a tag.

Having just done Michelle Zindorf's brayer class last Sunday, I wanted to try brayering a tag. I started by stamping the swirl on the tag using white acrylic paint as ink. After it dried I brayered the bottom with Broken China and the top with Peeled Paint. Then used a wet cloth to gently remove the ink from the white paint. It's such a cool look. I used some Japanese Washi tape along the left side (stripes). The sentiment tag was distressed with Tumbled Glass and over-stamped with Broken China.

SC273 - Washi Tape Get Well

My friend, Heather, turned me on to Washi Tape - Japanese masking tape. It is the coolest stuff. It comes in all these incredible colors and patterns. It's a low tack tape so it's "repositionable". I had just ordered the "waterfall" collection from HAPPY TAPE and as Heather says, "was petting it". Yesterday, I was shopping at Archivers (avoiding going home to an empty, Jazz-free house) when I saw this Stampendous Peacock stamp and those bright aquas and limes in the Waterfall collection coalesced in my brain.

The peacock was colored with Copics and for additional sparkle I used some glitter (everything is better with glitter, right?) The little pop of raspberry in the flower really breaks up the blue/green/yellow monopoly.

Close up of the glitter areas. You can see I stamped the sentiment directly on the washi tape. Since it's not a porous tape I used Archival black and allowed it to dry overnight.

The weekly SCS Sketch Challenge (SC273) was perfect for the washi tape and peacock image!
