A Family Wedding

There hasn't been a family wedding in my family for close to 50 years now. My generation either didn't marry or eloped. So my niece's wedding today is a true celebration!

Since this is my only niece, I put an inordinate amount of pressure on myself to do a GREAT card! I dreamed about. I worried about it. In the end, I came up with a pretty simple card. I really like how it turned out but in the end it wasn't anything close to what I had imaged! The wedding colors are red, silver, and white, so I tried to include that in the card. It also had to have GLITTER. It just did! (My niece isn't a glitter girl but Aunt Deb is...)

Stamps: Stampin Up! FRENCH FLAIR and ALWAYS
Paper: sparkle white, red
Ink: Real Red
Accessories: Silver EP, glitter, and polka dot ribbon

I helped Jess with hand crafted Save the Date cards, invitations, and place cards. There were about a 100 of each project.

The save the date card was the most elaborate one. I printed the information. Then masked the info and stamped the couple. Then masked the couple and stamped the calendar. Then masked the calendar and stamped the silver swirls. I colored the couple with copics and stamped the calendar with the date. I did all that by myself on vacation in Norway.

Stamps: Stampin Up! TO HAVE AND TO HOLD, Memory Box swirl, Hero Arts calendar
Paper: white
Ink: Memento
Accessories: Copics

When it came time to do the wedding invitation, I corralled all my friends (even if they didn't stamp) and put them to work. Thanks to Heather, Carolyn, Laura, and Adam for helping me get these done in one weekend. We used the Archiver's pocket card. The rest was either printed or embossed.

I'd like to share one other thing. My sister, Laura, lives and teaches on an Air Force base in Italy (Aviano). There's a tradition at Italian weddings of giving the guest Bombinaries. This is a small sack/box with candied almonds inside. Laura commissioned these small bags that are just incredible. There are two kinds. The one for children have a small stuffed heart.
The adult version has flowers and spices. And hand-written tags. These are all hand-made and so special.

So congratulations to Jessica and Nathan....I hope they have many, many happy years together!

Heading home tomorrow and after the laundry and picking up the dog, I'll start the new year crafting. I have a new Slice to play with; recipes to convert; and a challenge or two for you....hope you'll play along! And Happy New Year!

Gorgeous card, too; you really perfected the elegant-without-being-too-frilly look and used the just the right amount of sparkle, too!

  4. I remember bonboniere from when we were stationed in Italy (Sigonella) - we got them as baby announcements for my daughter. Ah, good memories.
