A Happy Accident

Last week before the company arrived, I went to "play" at Heather's. She wanted to see what I did with my Tattered Angels GLIMMER MIST. We tried different papers, color combos, and masks. Somewhere in the process I had a "happy accident".

I started with a 4.25"x5.5" sheet of SU! Whisper White. I use Whisper White because it's a very smooth, slick paper and the sponges move across it easily. Ranger DISTRESS INKS are a water-based ink that stays wet longer. This allows colors to blend.

I used a couple of swirl masks from Tim Holtz and randomly placed them over the sponged card stock. Then I randomly sprayed Glimmer Mist. Adding layers of color over the sponged color gives real depth to the card stock. The Glimmer Mist will soak into the card stock but will pool on the mask. Use a cloth or paper towel to gently dab up the pooled color.

The happy "accident" comes when the masks are removed. The sponged color below is revealed to show a wonderful mix of colors. This can be very subtle or very bold depending on how the color is layered.

I then stamped another swirl in the darkest ink (Dusty Concord).

I sprayed the Key Lime Pie Glimmer Mist over another piece of Whisper White and brushed the edges of the skeleton image with Shabby Shutters. When stamping on Glimmer Mist the most effective ink is Archival Black. It will stay "on top" of the color. For the sentiment, I just inked different parts of the stamp with the Distress Inks used in the background. A few rhinestones for bling (it's gotta have bling!) and I'm done!

Stamps: Stampers Anonymous ANTHOLOGY, Stampa Fe skeleton and sentiment.
Paper: Stampin Up! Whisper White and black card stock.
Ink: Distress Ink: Shabby Shutters, Dusty Concord, Spiced Marmalade, and Archival Black.
Accessories: Glimmer Mist: Key Lime Pie, Jack o'Lanter, and Raven; sponge daubers;
Tim Holtz masks; rhinestones.

  1. Gorgeous background and just a bit spooky --perfect for the theme! Don't you love it when 'accidents' turn out better than the original plan??
